ok, it’s been a while since i read the Chronicles of Narnia, and i can’t even remember the names of all seven books. but i read them all (i still have my paperback boxset), and i remember some of the underlying themes of the series: honesty, integrity, selflessness, mercy. nowhere in the books did i pick up anything about cheating being good, or noble.
for the past week disney’s been running a commercial pimping the game based on the 1st movie (TLTW&TW), and the hook of the commercial is that by visiting the website, gamers can “obtain the ultimate weapon – THE CHEAT CODE!” – there’s just something so anti-Narnia about that, as though they’re implying that ‘cheating’ is a natural part of ‘playing’. what would C.S. Lewis say? what would Aslan say? heck, WWAD?
(note: funny, but ever since i originally posted this, the commercial has found its way off the air… thanks to all my loyal readers who apparently took action against this campaign!)
