quickie
just had to stifle a laugh at the latest ‘breaking news’ on Fox.
apparently a California Rep, Xavier Becerra, smiled when an ‘operative’ for a Republican Congressional candidate stood up in the middle of a Union Meeting and insisted that everyone stop what they were doing and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Fox’s breathless coverage includes [...]
word of the day
ok, for this to be a true ‘WOTD’ entry i would’ve had to have included at least one word sometime in the history of this almost-blog. maybe i’ll start with regular blog entries and work my way up to vocab.
but, be that as it may, i have a word for you, inspired by the reagan/bush/clinton/bush [...]
the Vice President is a [redacted]
cheney, MTP, one hour exclusive. he’s been practicing for weeks, even though most of his talking points are stale.
the re-hashed line he keeps using is that America MUST be safer now, because we haven’t been attacked in the last five years. (a line now being parroted by the pundits on the McLaughlin Group)
but who remembers [...]
catch this: “optimism is the only option”
he’s sweating in mississippi (that’s a therapeutic word to type… try it), there’s what sounds like between 10-50 people there to see THE PRESIDENT, and he’s giving ‘the big one’ (his big Katrina speech in NOLA) a test drive. here’s hoping that “optimism is the only option” is not the new banner under which we’re [...]
pseudo-etymology
i’m no linguist (not that cunning), but I know just enough about the English language to understand the meaning of words like “conspiracy” - my layman’s definition would be as follows:
Conspiracy (kon-SPEER-uh-see) - noun - the agreement by a group
(or groups) of individuals or organizations to pursue a common goal
through deception, misinformation, and subterfuge.
ok, that turned [...]
the power of myth
so maybe you’ve heard about the much-hyped ‘United 93′, whose plot & script are based on phonecalls, hearsay, a dubious black box, and a yearning for ‘American Heroes’ - (sorry America, you had your chance w/ Pat Tillman)
i’ve visited the official site, and viewed the slick ‘transponder timeline’, have been moved by the haunting, ethereal soundtrack, [...]
american justice, florida-style
i guess now we know the answer to the age-old question, ‘how many gitmo guard wannabe’s does it take to beat a 14-year old to death?’ (answer: 9)
(if you follow the link above, be sure to check out the critique of the Bay County ME’s autopsy by the former director of the Center for Sickle Cell [...]
scalia labels President et al. “idiots”
antonin scalia spoke to the Federalist Society yesterday, and made some rather profound statements on the rigidity of the US Constitution.
“…the argument of flexibility … goes something like this: The Constitution is over 200 years old and societies change. It has to change with society, like a living organism, or it will become brittle and [...]
the 7 dollar stamp is dead - long live the Silent Heart Attack
this is how they do it, when they do it.
rather tragic that it’s taken the near-fatal shooting of a 78-year old man to shine ANOTHER spotlight on that dirty corner under the refrigerator where old-school neocons (preocons) live… but the WhiteHouse press corps seems to have finally found a story worth pursuing. haven’t heard the [...]
Tookie Must Die… right?
i’m afraid that Tookie Williams is going to die.
david duke gets to run for the Senate, for Governor of Louisiana, for PRESIDENT, but TOOKIE MUST DIE. way to show ‘em, america.
(btw, how many more executions before ‘God’s Gift to Humanity’ kicks in?)
it’s very simple, really:
if Capital Punishment were an effective deterrent we wouldn’t have to [...]
